I really appreciated your candor and feel like you tapped into that experience so many of us have with writing, social media, and a desire for our work to be acknowledged and appreciated. I'm intrigued about the book you're working on, as I feel shame is an under explored topic in middle grade lit. I loved everything about this post! Thanks for sharing. :)
Of course, Laurie! Putting your words out there takes courage, time, and dedication. So we teacher/writers (me aspiring and still working on it) need to stick together! Thank YOU for your vulnerability. :)
I'm grateful for your boundaries and your truth! Also so glad you are giving this new novel draft the time and space it deserves...loved what I heard about it this summer and excited for you! And your readers...
I, too, am guilty of checking and hoping and despairing and rejoicing...I've come to embrace it somewhat, knowing I'm proud of the book I wrote and more able to dismiss those who don't love it like I do. I don't have any solutions except to say I'm with you and always working on the shame trap (knowing it's a trap!) It's fall - and reminding me of Keeping Pace and XC!!!!
I used to love Goodreads. Until Amazon took over. I used to see new reviews regularly. Now, not so much. They have been making unauthorized changes to my author bookshelf which make no sense (one of my books lost its cover and I can't seem to contact them in the right place to put it back, or to ask why they changed the metadata). They put up a series as a new book. I used to go to Goodreads daily, even if it was just to keep track of my TBR pile. Not so much anymore. They've taken a good app and made it no longer valuable to me.

Thank you so much for reading, Angie, and for this thoughtful note! I’m so happy you enjoyed the post!

Grateful for this honest, heartfelt post, Laurie! And from the reading you shared this summer, I am psyched for your next book.
Love this post and loved seeing your mention of the podcast. That was such a great conversation we had!

How frustrating!
